Do you watch the news? Read it? Listen to it? What’s the most palatable way for you to get the daily scoop?
Many years ago I got so fed up with the cable news machine and I decided to stop the daily fear mongering & mass broadcast of the days tragic events. Lets face it bad news sells stuff. And since virtually every local and cable news channel is funded by big business it always felt like a gross way to be “informed”. Flash forward 10 years and here I am a grown woman without a trusting news source. You really can’t be an informed, educated member of modern society without having some idea of what’s happening in the world.
How can a Well-mannered woman navigate the world without knowing what’s on the senate floor, who’s running to replace Chavez or which major bank is getting a hand slap by the Feds. There’s a great wealth of ways and means to get your news these days and its pretty empowering. I recommend getting different perspectives from a variety of sources. Here are a few of my favorites:
NPR (my personal favorite, they do podcasts, live streaming and have something for everyone. Not to mention more integrity than almost any other news source.
New York Times (they also have podcasts so you can get some of your news on the go)
Huffington Post
The New Yorker
The Economist (yes it’s heady, pick 1 article and try push yourself to finish it)
My new favorite is the Skimm: run by two snappy women they will email you a morning summary of the days news. It written in a catchy “Skinny Bitch” style: www.theskimm.com
